Lining materials for waste-disposal containment and waste-storage facilities. January 1970-July 1989 (Citations from the NTIS data base). Report for January 1970-July 1989
This bibliography contains citations concerning the design, characteristics, performance, and materials used to make liners employed in the waste disposal and storage industry. Liners made of concrete, polymeric materials, compacted clays, asphalt, and in-situ glass are discussed. The use of these liners to contain municipal wastes, hazardous waste liquids, and both low-level and high-level radioactive wastes is presented. Liner permeability, transport, stability, construction, and design are studied. Laboratory field measurements for specific wastes are included. (Contains 74 citations fully indexed and including a title list.) -
Post-earthquake analysis and data correlation for the 1/4-scale containment model of the Lotung experiment
This report presents the results of post-prediction earthquake response data analyses performed to identify the test system parameters for the 1/4-scale containment model of the Large-Scale Seismic Test (LSST) in Lotung, Taiwan and the results of post- prediction analytical earthquake parametric studies conducted to evaluate the applicabilities of four soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis methods which have frequently been applied in the US nuclear industry. These four methods evaluated were: (1) the soil-spring method; (2) the CLASSI continuum halfspace substructuring method; (3) the SASSI finite element substructuring method; and (4) the FLUSH finite element direct method. Waste containment: Soil-bentonite slurry walls. Remedial Action Tech data sheet
Slurry walls are subsurface, low-permeability barriers that have been widely used since the 1940s to control groundwater flow. Slurry walls have been used extensively in civil engineering applications such as construction area dewatering and dam construction. More recent applications of slurry walls have been in the areas of waste site remediation and pollution control. In these applications, slurry walls have been used to redirect groundwater away from or around a waste site, contain a contaminated groundwater plume, and generally control the potential for contaminant migration through soil and groundwater.
