Slowing down of ions due to Coulomb collisions in a plasma
Abstract
Lenard's form of the plasma kinetic equation incorporating dynamic shielding was used to calculate the rate of energy loss by fast ions due to Coulomb collisions inside a plasma. The rate thus calculated is significantly larger than the results obtained on the basis of convential theories with static especially if the plasma is very dense and the ion speed is not too high.

SPECTRUM CALCULATIONS FOR NEUTRONS SLOWING DOWN BY ELASTIC COLLISIONS
A method is suggested for obtaining the collision density as a fuuction of lethargy for neutrons slowing down in an infinite homogeneous moderator containing uniformly distributed sources of fission neutrons. The reactions considered include elastic scattering, spherically symmetric in the center of mass system, and absorption. The solution, which is exact for single element moderators when the only neutron reaction is elastic scattering, extends the well known Greuling-- Goertzel approximation and shows that it is in error by no more than 13%. The method is also exact for a mixture of nuclides, provided the cross section ratios are energy independent, more » -
Slowing Down of Test Particles in a Plasma; RALENTISSEMENT DE PARTICULES TEST DANS UN PLASMA
A numerical solution of the Fokker-Planck equation for triton attenuation in a deuterium plasma is presented. The temperature and energy distribution functions for the tritons at successive times are obtained. The numerical results are analyzed and, as far as possible, mathematically explained. (auth)
