Mechanical and thermal characterization of unidirectional aramid/epoxy. Final report, November 1985-December 1986
The results of an extensive experimental investigation of the mechanical and thermal response of an aramid/epoxy unidirectional composite which is one of the constituents of currently produced ARALL laminates were summarized. The characterization of mechanical response of the supplied aramid/epoxy system was performed at room temperature. Three different test methods were employed: the off-axis tension test, the Losipescu shear test, and the off-axis compression test. All tests were performed under monotonic and quasi-cyclic loading conditions in order to determine the initial elastic response and subsequent nonlinear response, including permanent strain accumulation as a function of the stress reversal level and failure. The results of the tests were summarized.
