The results are presented of detailed petrophysical studies of the sediments of coal deposits and coal basins, yielding a list of petrophysical types (petrotypes) identified in the cross section of parametric wells by geological and geophysical methods. On the basis of these petrotypes and their descriptions according to the grain size and optimal composition, a generalized classification of rocks and coals of coal-bearing formations has been constructed.
