A novel concept was evaluated for the direct concentration and conversion of dilute, oxygen-free carbon monoxide to SNG-grade methane at a cost initially believed to be competitive with natural gas. It was dubbed COthane - a contraction of the feed CO and the product methane. It is a two-step, two-reactor process. The process was described completely. It was proved that the concept was technically feasible, but not economically viable at this time. 4 figures, 2 tables. (DP)
