Measurement of growth rate of plasma drift wave excited by slow electrons

Measurements are presented on drift waves which are driven unstable by an annular beam of slow electrons. The growth rate of the most unstable mode varies linearly with the injection velocity of the beam, in accordance with fluid theory.
