New A/sub x/Nb/sub 6/Se/sub 8/ (A = Na,K,Rb,Cu,Ag,Zn,Cd,Pb) phases with the Nb/sub 3/Te/sub 4/ structure

A number of ternary niobium selenides, A/sub x/Nb/sub 6/Se/sub 8/ (A = Na,K,Rb,Cu,Ag,Zn,Cd,Pb) have been prepared by means of molten salt ion exchange and ternary element insertion. The A ions enter topotactically into the empty channels of the three-dimensional network structure of Nb/sub 3/Se/sub 4/. The size of the ternary ion has little effect on the volume of the Nb/sub 3/Se/sub 4/ lattice.
