The effects of droplet collision angle, droplet diameter, and droplet velocity on the mixing time in microdroplet collisions are investigated. The extent of mixing is determined by monitoring the diffusion-controlled reaction between HSO/sub 4//sup -/ and OH/sup -/ with Raman spectroscopy. A minimum mixing time tau/sub mix/ approx. = 100 ..mu..s occurs for collisions with Weber numbers greater than 160. The results of these studies serve as a guide in the selection of a set of droplet collision conditions to provide optimum mixing time and time resolution for very fast kinetic studies.
