Title: Differential cross section for antiproton + proton. -->. anti. lambda. +. lambda. from 1. 5 to 3. 1 GeV/c

The folded angular distributions in the cosine of the center-of-mass scattering angle absolute value Cos theta* were measured for the reaction anti p + p ..-->.. ..lambda.. + anti..lambda.. from 1.5 GeV/c to 3.1 Gev/c in incident anti p momentum. The data sample consisted of 1763 reconstructed events after all cuts. The coupling of the U-meson (2350 MeV) to the ..lambda..anti..lambda.. state was investigated. The U has been previously observed in the baryon-antibaryon channels anti p + p ..-->.. anti p + p and anti p + p ..-->.. anti n + n. The 95% C.L. limits on the production of the U in this experiment are 7..mu..b based on the total channel cross section. This limit is 47 time less than the coupling of anti pp to the U in the charge exchange channel.
