Title: Shiba-Rusinov theory of magnetic impurities in anisotropic superconductors: Eliashberg formalism

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)

The effect of paramagnetic impurities in anisotropic superconductors is investigated with use of the Shiba-Rusinov theory for the impurities and the Eliashberg formalism for the host superconductor. The analytical expressions for the transition temperature T/sub c/ and the specific-heat jump ..delta..C are derived with the use of the square-well model for the electron-phonon interaction. Considered as a function of the spin-flip scattering rate ..cap alpha.., the quantities T/sub c//T/sub c0/ and ..delta..C/..delta..C/sub 0/ depend on the microscopic parameters lambda, ..omega../sub D/, and ..mu..( of the host material. The dependence on the material parameters becomes insignificant if the above properties are plotted versus ..cap alpha../..cap alpha../sub cr/ or if ..delta..C/..delta..C/sub 0/ versus T/sub c//T/sub c0/ is studied. (T/sub c/0 and ..delta..C/sub 0/ are values of T/sub c/ and ..delta../sub C/, respectively, in the absence of impurities, ..cap alpha../sub cr/ is the value of ..cap alpha.. for which T/sub c/ becomes zero, lambda is electron-phonon--interaction parameter, ..omega../sub D/ is the Debye frequency, and ..mu..( is the Coulomb pseudopotential.)=tion M/sub Q/ via magnetic induction field B.
