X-ray investigations of hydrogen-containing VTS. cap alpha. -titanium alloy during heating and cooling
A study of the phase transformations occurring in hydrogen-containing VT5 titanium alloys during heating and cooling was conducted using high-temperature x-ray diffraction analysis. Hydrogen-impregnated samples were annealed and then placed into the high-temperature chamber of the diffractometer with a low pressure gas atmosphere to avoid dehydrogenization of the alloy. Specimens containing 0.1, 0.5, and 0.9 wt.% hydrogen were selected. The results made it possible to analyze the change in atomic volume of the individual phases in heating and cooling and to determine the volume effects accompanying the phase transformations. The investigation established that alloying of VT5 ..cap alpha..-titanium alloys with hydrogen leads to an increase in the volume effect of the polymorphic ..cap alpha.. ARLR BETA-transformation.
