Title: Ignition, propagation, and structure of deflagrations and detonations. Stable species concentration of a turbulent premixed methane-air flame

Journal Article · · Combust. Flame; (United States)

Experimental and calculated values of the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitric oxide in a premixed turbulent methane-air flame were obtained. Researchers used an isokinetic sampling probe to take gas samples of the flow-stabilized flame at several locations for species measurements in five different gas analyzers. Experimental results matched model predictions, proving that the model is valid for the flame investigated; it predicted the shape of the reaction core almost perfectly. The results for the pollutants NO and CO allow a validation of the reaction kinetic processes of small-scale turbulence in combusting systems.
