Title: Infrared-spectral investigations of binary vitreous systems obtained by the sol-gel method

Abstract

Samples of binary oxides with preassigned SiO/sub 2/-TiO/sub 2/, TiO/sub 2/-GeO/sub 2/, SiO/sub 2/-GeO/sub 2/, SiO/sub 2/-B/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and SiO/sub 2/-ZrO/sub 2/ ratios were prepared in a process for hydrolytic condensation of metal alkoxides under homogeneous conditions with subsequent spontaneous gelation, heating of the gels, with holding at the final temperature. In the spectra of the binary oxides synthesized by the sol-gel method, they detected absorption bands that are not characteristic of the spectra of individual oxides. These bands can be correlated with the vibrations of mixed bridges in the structure of the glasses and the solid solutions. The technological realization of the thus-solved problems is the determination of the moment of formation of heterometallic dioxane groups and the conditions for completeness of condensation in the solid phase. Studying the changes of the absorption spectra in relation to the sample heating temperature, they determined the presence of impurity bands corresponding to M'-O-M'' vibrations in different stages of the sol-gel process.
