Sacroc initiates landmark CO/sub 2/U injection project
The landmark carbon-dioxide injection program currently being readied for the Sacroc unit of the Kelly- Snyder field of W. Texas is the result of long-range reservoir studies conducted by the Sacroc Unit Engineering Committee. The plan of operation developed as the result of these studies is as follows: (1) the COD2U miscible project will utilize 202 injection wells in an inverted 9-spot pattern; (2) pre-water injection will be initiated in low pressure areas to increase reservoir pressure and displace or dissolve free gas saturation to insure miscible performance when COD2U is introduced; and (3) an alternating COD2U-water slug process with dual injection system will be utilized in the project. Increased oil recovery directly attributable to the COD2U project is expected to be over 230,000,000 bbl. Depending upon early performance of the project and availability of COD2U, it is possibble that the COD2U slug size can be increased for additional improvement in recovery. Also inlcuded in plans for future studies will be the evaluation of a tertiary recovery pilot which will involve COD2U injection in the waterflooded part of the reef. Details of field performance, COD2U miscible development, additional reservoir studies, and the pre-water injection plan are given.
