Title: Propagating ionospheric waves observed throughout east Asia during the WAGS October 1985 campaign. [Worldwide Atmospheric Gravity wave Study]

Journal Article · · Radio Sci.; (United States)

The effects of acoustic gravity waves upon the ionosphere is studied over distances ranging up to 3400 km for midlatitudes in east Asia as part of the Worldwide Atmospheric Gravity Wave Study during October 15-19, 1985. Recognized wave structures were observed mainly on the (h-prime)f-time variation profiles and to a lesser extent on the foF2-time variation profiles. The implied directions of propagation of the acoustic waves were mainly southward, with only three cases of northward propagation. The southward propagation periods ranges from 40 to 210 min, while the northward propagation periods were consistently about 70 min. 14 references.
