Title: Dissociative recombination of N/sub 2/H/sup +/ and N/sub 2/D/sup +/

Abstract

The dissociative recombination of N/sub 2/H/sup +/ and N/sub 2/D/sup +/ has been measured over the electron energy interval 0.006 to 0.75 eV. Assuming a Maxwellian distribution of the electron velocities, the derived rate coefficients for N/sub 2/H/sup +/ and N/sub 2/D/sup +/ at 100 K are 1.5 x 10/sup -6/ cm/sup 3/ s/sup -1/. Although deuteration markedly reduces the recombination cross section for H/sub 3//sup +/, and to some extent for H/sub 3/O/sup +/, it has little effect for heavier ions like N/sub 2/H/sup +/.
