Prospects for radio observations of molecular clouds at cosmological distances

A discussion is given of the opportunities for radio-frequency observation of CO and H/sub 2/CO molecules in gas clouds situated at cosmological distances (z>1). In quasar radio spectra the molecular absorption-line depths could reach several tens of percent of the continuum flux. The effects that would result from the intrinsic emission of the molecular clouds in certain lines are estimated.
