Title: X-ray diffuse scattering

Abstract

Modern X-ray scattering techniques are used to study the structures and phase transitions in novel states of condensed matter. Synchrotron radiation is used to study structure and transitions occurring at single surfaces. Current experiments are concentrated in three areas: the growth, structure, and phase transitions of intercalant materials, most especially bromine-intercalated graphite, the structure and phase transitions of smectic liquid crystals, and the evolution from thin film to bulk structures of model systems.
