A second uprighting attempt on the crippled Alexander Kielland, the North Sea semisubmersible which capsized in March 1980 killing 123 crewmen, is rumored to begin in the next few weeks. The decision comes from the rig's owner/insurer Storebrand following the Norwegian government's recent guarantee to underwrite 80% of the risk incurred. The first uprighting project got underway last Oct. with SD Marine partnered with Nico International. The group's contract was terminated in Dec. by the government after 3 mo. work. It was a move which surprised, and puzzled company officials.
