In the present theory of transparent gravitational lenses in the Newtonian limit, the light ray trajectory in a partially evacuated cosmic bottle is derived straightforwardly for both single-redshift and multiredshift lenses; the formulation leads to the identification of cases in which the multiredshift lens equations can be drastically simplified. One such case is a nonlinear telescope composed of many elements at different distances, whose lens equation can be reduced to a form that is equivalent to a thin lens equation. The lens is further simplified if there is no nonlinear component. 50 references.
