The leptonic decays of the baryon octet are investigated in the framework of a nonlocal quark model. A baryon-quark strong-interaction Lagrangian invariant under SU(3) x SU/sup c/(3) x U(1) is constructed. The weak interaction is introduced as a pure current x current V--A interaction without admixture of D-coupling. All the parameters determining the quark field have been determined from analysis of decays of mesons. The widths of the leptonic decays of the baryons are considered, the renormalization, due to the strong interaction, of the axial coupling constant is calculated, the intensities of the contributions of F- and D-coupling to the matrix elements of the leptonic decays are calculated, and the magnitudes of the anomalous magnetic moments and ''weak magnetism'' of the baryons are determined. The effective constant of the perturbation-theory expansion turns out to be less than unity. The results are in good agreement with experiment.
