Crystal structure of R/sub 2/Ni/sub 2/In compounds (R = Y, Sm, Gd, Tb, Ho, Er, Tm, Lu)
The crystal structure of R/sub 2/Ni/sub 2/In compounds has been investigated by the single-crystal method using the example of Y/sub 2/Ni/sub 2/In. We selected single crystals in the form of an orthorhombic prism of an alloy of composition Y/sub 0.40/Ni/sub 0.40/In/sub 0.20/ prepared by electric-arc fusion of compacted yttrium (purity 0.9983 mass fraction Y), nickel (0.9992 mass fraction Ni), and indium (0.9999 mass fraction In) in purified argon under a pressure of 1.1 x 10/sup 5/ Pa and annealed at 870 K. Study of the single crystal was done by the Laue method, the rotation method, and the Weissenberg method, and subsequently also by taking the diffraction patterns on the Syntex P2/sub 1/ automatic diffractometer.
