Forming of electrode pastes is the longest stage in manufacture of lead-acid batteries, and therefore searches for ways of shortening the time of paste forming are of practical importance. At the present time the attention of investigators is focused mainly on determination of the optimal forming conditions. However, it is also of interest to examine the possibility of accelerating the forming process by introduction of conducting additives, and in particular of graphite, into the pastes. The behavior of graphite in the sulfuric acid solutions used in the battery industry gas has not been studied sufficiently to justify recommending its use as an additive to electrode paste. The material investigated in the present work was graphite fiber, made by heat treatment of viscose fiber. The experiments were conducted in 1.66 M H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ solution at 25/sup 0/.
