M/sub 2/O/sub 3/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/-Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/ systems (M - La, Y, Sc)

New compounds with the general formula MVTa/sub 2/O/sub 9/ have been discovered in M/sub 2/O/sub 3/-V/sub 2/O/sub 5/-Ta/sub 2/O/sub 5/ systems, where M = La, Y, Sc. On the basis of data from x-ray fluorescence analysis and IR spectra, we have identified two crystal modifications of YVTa/sub 2/O/sub 9/, the first of which is isostructural to LaVTa/sub 2/O/sub 9/ and the second is isostructural to ScVTa/sub 2/O/sub 9/. The x-ray luminescence spectrum of europium in YVTa/sub 2/O/sub 9/ has been recorded.
