Extensive work is in progress for development of oxidation methods for removing hydrogen sulfide from gases. One promising route involves the use of transition-metal complexes as catalysts. The complex of iron with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is the one most widely used. In this paper the authors report the results of a study of the influence of temperature on oxidation of Fe(II) by atmospheric oxygen. Experiments showed that the rate of oxidation of the iron(II)-EDTA complex increases with temperature, reaching a maximum at 40.
