Highlights of the solar thermal conversion program. Semi-annual review, 30 April-2 May 1975

Abstract

Overviews of the ERDA and Electric Power Research Institute program plans and the progress in the mission analysis study by the Aerospace Corporation are given. The total energy, distributed collector, surface technology, and central receiver studies are summarized briefly. Informal oral comments, recommendations, and conclusions of the Ad Hoc Review Committee relative to the information presented at the review are compiled. (LEW)

The highlights of the Open Session of the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) Solar Thermal Branch Semiannual Review held in Washington, D.C., on 3 June 1976, are presented. The review covers status and plans for the Central Receiver Project, the Solar Thermal Test Facility Project, and the related research and development activities. The objectives of these efforts are (1) to verify the technical and economic feasibility and environmental acceptability of the solar energy concepts and (2) to transfer to an appropriate industrial sector the solar technology allowing the solar plants to be economically competitive with conventional power plants. The highlights of the ERDA Solar Thermal Branch Semi-annual Review held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 17--19, 1975, are presented. The review covered the status and plans for the Central Receiver Pilot Plant and Test Facility projects. Preliminary design efforts by five contractor teams are discussed. These contractors include Honeywell, Incorporated, Martin Marietta Corporation, McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company, Boeing Engineering and Construction Division, and Black and Veatch Consulting Engineers.
