Discrimination between coprecipitated and adsorbed lead on individual calcite particles using laser microprobe mass analysis

Laser microprobe mass analysis was applied to calcite particles containing either coprecipitated or adsorbed lead, at bulk concentrations of either ca. 100 or 1000 ppm. For this system it appeared that a distinction could be made between the two particle types; the lead mass peaks were significantly more prominent for the particles with adsorbed lead, particularly when low laser irradiances were used.
