A motor suited for a particular application is based on many factors - requirements of the driven equipment, service conditions, motor efficiency, and motor power factor. Good energy management in the application of the motor will result in energy conservation. Specifically, factors affecting efficiency of polyphase and single-phase motors, system considerations, maintenance, and evaluation of increased efficiency are discussed.
