Title: Reductive coupling of linear carbon-containing ligands via transition metal complexes

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6137874

A process for the formation of an isolable C/sub 2/ containing compound comprising the steps: (a) reacting an early transition metal seven coordinate complex of the formula: M is an early transition metal selected from the group consisting of vanadium, niobium, tantalum, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, technetium, and rhenium; Y/sub 1/ and Y/sub 2/ are each independently selected from the group of linear carbon-containing ligands consisting of C identical to O, CNR, NCR, -C identical to CR, CN, C=S, CO/sub 2/ and CS/sub 2/, wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl group, or an aryl group, with the exception that Y/sub 1/ and Y/sub 2/ are not both CNR; L/sub 1/, L/sub 2/, L/sub 3/ and L/sub 4/, are each independently selected from ligands that are 2-electron donors; X is halogen or pseudohalogen; with a second metal complex formula.
