Clutch driven plate assembly with anti-backlash damping
This patent describes a clutch driven plate assembly for an automotive vehicle clutch driving a transmission input shaft, including a hub assembly having an inner hub with a barrel splined onto the input shaft, and an outer hub having a radial flange. A clutch plate carries friction facings at the outer periphery; a spring retainer plate secures the clutch plate to sandwich the outer hub flange; the plates and outer hub flange have axially aligned sets of circumferentially spaced windows and damper springs in each set of windows. The improvement comprises intermeshing backlash splines on the inner and outer hubs allowing limited relative rotation; means yieldable resisting relative rotation between the hubs including at least two radially-biased plungers in one hub and camming recesses in the other hub corresponding to the number of plungers, so that rotation causes the plungers to cam out of the recess. A first spacer is located between the clutch plate and the inner hub and pilot the inner hub central to the outer hub. Anti-rotation tabs on the periphery of the spacer are received in notches in the outer hub.
