MCDAN: a Monte Carlo computer code for calculating the Dancoff correction factor for spheres and rods
Abstract
MCDAN is a computer code that uses Monte Carlo techniques to calculate the Dancoff correction factor for arrays of spheres or rods. Neutrons are started from the surface of the sphere (rod) and tracked until they intersect another sphere (rod). The histories of a number of neutrons are statistically combined to give a value for the Dancoff correction factor. MCDAN was written as a tool to verify the accuracy of an expression for the Dancoff correction factor used in a study of the reactivity effect of fuel particles in uranium--water mixtures. The accuracy of MCDAN has been verified by comparison with tabulated data for systems of two spheres (rods).

SUPERDAN: computer programs for calculating the Dancoff factor of spheres, cylinders, and slabs
Resonance integral calculations for a reactor lattice require the use of the Dancoff factor. In the past, tables and approximate expressions have been used to obtain this value. In order to reduce the uncertainty in the use of approximations and to avoid the inconvenience of tables, a series of computer programs has been written to calculate the Dancoff factor. Three computer programs have been prepared, one each for infinitely long cylinders, spheres, and infinite slabs. The program for cylinders includes corrections for the effect of partial shadowing of a rod by adjacent rods and for the effect of clad surroundingmore » -
User's manual for PHOEL-3, a Monte Carlo computer code for calculating initial energies of electrons and positrons produced in water irradiated by photons with energies up to 1 GeV
The Monte Carlo computer code, PHOEL-3, which is described here, replaces an earlier code, PHOEL-2, for generating the initial energies of electrons and positrons produced in water by irradiation with photons having an arbitrary energy spectrum up to 1 GeV. The code handles input photons individually on the basis of the energy-dependent cross sections for the physical processes treated, which are the photoelectric effect, Compton scattering, and pair and triplet production. Options exist for (1) following each photon through successive Compton scattering events until it disappears by photoelectric absorption or pair production, (2) allowing at most only a single Compton-scatteringmore » -
User's manual for PHOEL-2: a Monte Carlo computer code for calculating energies of photoelectrons and Compton electrons in water. [10 to 200 keV; for IBM 360/91]
A Monte Carlo computer code, PHOEL-2, is described for generating the energies of photoelectrons and Compton electrons in water irradiated uniformly by photons having an arbitrary energy spectrum. The code treats input photons individually on the basis of the energy-dependent cross sections for Compton scattering and for the photoelectric effect. Options exist for following each photon through successive Compton scattering events until it disappears by photoelectric absorption or allowing at most only a single Compton scattering event per input photon. The photoelectric effect can be turned on or off with either option. If energetically possible, the photoelectron is assumed tomore »
