Title: Gene factory: inside the genetic and biotechnology business revolution

Abstract

The book covers a broad range of topics relevant to the biotechnology industry, primarily from a business standpoint. Most of the book is devoted to discussions of biotechnology products in the near and long term and their potential market sizes. In addition, the early chapters contain discussions of financing start-up companies (including some of the differences in venture capital philosophies in the US and United Kingdom) and important patent issues. Other chapters include discussions of the service industries that have grown up to support biotechnology laboratories and the problems of scaling up production from 10-liter laboratory batches to 20,000-200,000-liter commercial fermenters.
