Fundamental aspects of combustion
This book is addressed to readers who have not specialized in combustion. Chapter 1 provides introductory information on combustion. Premixed flames and diffusion flames are the main topics of chapters 2 and 3, emphasizing the important roles played by asymptotic analysis and the diversity arising from chemical kinetics in flames. In an attempt to emphasize their common features, the subjects of ignition, flammability, and detonation are covered in chapter 4. Turbulent combustion, in both premixed and nonpremixed systems, is the topic of chapter 5. The book concludes (chapter 6) with a discussion of future directions in combustion science. This volume is intended to summarize the basis of combustion and to indicate areas of current activity--fundamental and applied--as well as to address prospects for future progress.
