Title: Simple diffraction mode selector

Abstract

An analysis is made of a laser mode selector in the form of a diffraction structure formed by strips of a single-layer dielectric coating having a high refractive index. Results are presented of calculations of the sharpness factor and insertion losses as a function of the dielectric thickness. It is concluded that a quarter-wave coating is potentially useful. This result is confirmed experimentally for an He--Ne laser with a zinc sulfide selector.
