Progress in developing improved hot corrosion- and erosion-resistant coatings for industrial/utility gas turbine engine airfoils is reported. Both metallic coatings of the CoCrAl type with various elements addition and ceramic coating of ZrO/sub 2/ (12% Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/) will be evaluated in a single source evaporation PVD system.
