Title: Neutral currents in the antineutrino experiment in the 15-foot bubble chamber

Abstract

We present the results of a study of the weak hadronic neutral current, using data (approx.13,000 events) obtained in the exposure of the FNAL 15-foot bubble chamber filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mixture to a broad-band high-energy antineutrino beam. The following quantities have been measured: 1) the ratio of the neutral and charged current cross sections for nu-barN interactions sigma(nu-barN..-->..nu-barX)/sigma(nu-barN..--> mu../sup +/X) = 0.406 +- 0.028; 2) the ratio of the cross sections for neutral current nu-barn and nu-barp interactions sigma(nu-barn..-->..nu-barX/sup 0/)/sigma(nu-barp..-->..nu-barX/sup +/) = 0. 88 +- 0.17; 3) the ratio of the yields of positive and negative mesons in the current-fragmentation region for z>0.2 sigma(nu-barN..-->..nu-barh/sup +/X)/sigma(nu-barN..-->..nu-barh/sup -/ iX) = 1.02 +- 0.12. The limits on the chiral coupling constants that follow from these measurements are found. Use of the left-handed couplings obtained in neutrino experiments has permitted us to determine the values of the squares of the right-handed couplings: u/sup 2//sub R/ = 0.033 +- 0.017 and d/sup 2//sub R/ = 0.002 +- 0.017. The results are in good agreement with the predictions of the standard model of electroweak interactions.
