A hybrid collocation-Galerkin-S/sub n/ method for solving the Boltzmann transport equation

A hybrid collocation-Galerkin-S/sub n/ method for solving the one-dimensional Boltzmann transport equation is presented. For problems with highly anisotropic scattering, this method offers many advantages relative to the standard S/sub n/ method. It is particularly useful for charged-particle calculations and can be implemented easily in standard S/sub n/ codes without changes to the standard solution algorithm. The hybrid method is compared with the standard method both theoretically and computationally.
