Synthesis and characterization of the mixed-metal alkoxides (((L sub 2 )Rh) sub 2 Sn(OEt) sub 6 ), where L sub 2 = 1,5-cyclooctadiene (COD) (3) and (CO) sub 2 (4), and the conversion of 3 to Rh and SnO sub 2 under mild conditions

In conjunction with studies for the synthesis of soluble molecular species as models for late-transition metal catalysts on metal oxide supports, the synthesis and characterization of new tin-rhodium alkoxide compounds ((L{sub 2}(Rh)){sub 2}Sn(OEt){sub 6}) where L{sub 2} = 1,5-cyclooctadiene and (CO){sub 2} are reported herein. Heating of the cyclooctadiene complex at 1039{degrees}C resulted in conversion to Rh and SnO{sub 2} rather than the formation of alcohol and alkenes as previously reported. The complexes were characterized by NMR spectra. 18 refs., 3 figs.
