Title: Quark structure of elementary particles

Conference · · AIP (Am. Inst. Phys.) Conf. Proc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5962863

The substructure of hadrons is discussed in terms of colored quarks, and arguments are given which suggest that nuclear forces are generated via quark exchange processes. Many-body forces, which arise in such an approach, are suggested as a natural cause of clustering in nuclei. The basic cluster, the ..cap alpha..-particle, is predicted to be tetrahedral. The nucleus /sup 16/O is briefly discussed as an illustration of a cluster model with such ..cap alpha..-particles. 21 references.
