Title: Expansion of a collisionless plasma into a vacuum

Abstract

It is shown experimentally that in plasma expansion into a vacuum ions can be accelerated by electrons as a result of ambipolar effects. Because of instability development the electron heat flux from the source to the front is roughly 10/sup 5/-10/sup 6/ smaller than given by two-body collision theory. (AIP)
