Methods and apparatus for safely measuring downhole conditions and formation characteristics while drilling a borehole
A logging apparatus is described, consisting of an upwardly opening passage in an upper portion of the tubular body for accommodating the lengthwise insertion and removal of an energy radiating source; a chamber in the interior of the tubular body and communicating with the passage for receiving an energy radiating source therein; an energy radiating source means comprising a source and source mount removably positioned in the chamber, the source means including means for removing the source, the removing means comprising an uppermost portion of the source means configured so as to be engagable by a source removing device; and a radiation detector disposed at a location spaced lengthwise from the chamber.
