TVA/DOE analysis of the operation of an electric power system with and without wind generation. Volume III. Simulated operations of TVA power system with wind generation. Final report
The overall objective of this investigation is to determine the impacts of significant amounts of intermittent generation, in this case, wind generation on the operations of an electric power system. In a program sponsored by the US Department of Energy (DOE), the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) conducted an analytical investigation of the impact of intermittent wind generation on the operations of the TVA power system. The investigation was divided into three phases. The first phase was the documentation of the 1978 TVA power system, which was selected as the base case. The second phase dealt with the hypothetical reconfiguration of the TVA transmission system to accommodate up to 8480 MW of wind-generating capacity. The third phase was the simulation of the daily operations of the TVA system with wind generation.
