Intermediates in the early events of heteropolymolybdate-catalyzed photodehydrogenations: The picosecond-nanosecond reactions of M(OH) sub 6 Mo sub 6 O sub 18 sup n minus , where M = Al sup III (n = 3), Rh sup III (n = 3), Fe sup III (n = 3), Cr sup III (n = 3), and Ni sup II (n = 4)

Reaction schemes have been recently published for the photodehydrogenation of alcohols catalyzed by Mo{sub 7}O{sub 24}{sub 6-}, and the question has been raised whether the same reaction applies to the photodehydrogenation of alcohols catalyzed by heteropolyoxomolybdates. Results of the investigation of the early events in the photohydrogeneration of alcohols catalyzed by M(OH){sub 6}Mo{sub 6}O{sub 18}{sub n-} where M = Al{sup III} (n=3), Cr{sup III} (n=3),Fe{sup III} (n=3), Rh{sup III} (n=3), and Ni{sup II} (n=4) are presented herein. The experimental observations show that early events in the photochemistry of these heteropolymolybdates is much more complex than those previously investigated with Mo{sub 7}O{sub 24}{sup 6-}. 23 refs., 5 figs., 2 tabs.
