This patent describes a fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine having an output shaft rotating about a vertically extending axis and at least two horizontally extending in line cylinders, a fuel injection pump having a drive shaft, and means for driving the fuel injection pump drive shaft from the engine output shaft, the improvement comprising the fuel injection pump drive shaft being rotatable about a horizontally extending axis disposed between the upper and lower ends of the engine for maintaining substantially equal length delivery lines to each of the cylinders.
