Title: Liner hanger with retrievable ball valve seat

Abstract

A hydraulic operated setting tool is described for hanging well liners in a well bore where the setting tool is used on a string of pipe and is actuated by hydraulic pressure in the string of pipe, comprising: hydraulic means in the setting tool, the hydraulic means being responsive to hydraulic pressure in the setting tool for producing an actuating motion in the setting tool; an outer tubular member located in the setting tool at a location below the hydraulic means, and an inner tubular member mounted for relative movement in the outer tubular member between first and second longitudinal positions, and release means for releasably interconnecting the inner tubular member to the outer tubular member in the first longitudinal position, the release means including an annular groove in the inner member, an expandable ring member disposed in a contracted condition in the annular groove and in abutting contact with the outer tubular member in the first longitudinal position, pressure responsive means in an initial position in the outer tubular member for initially releasably retaining the expandable ring member in the contracted condition in the first longitudinal position, and shear means initially releasably holding the pressure responsive means in themore » initial position for releasably retaining the resilient ring member in the contracted condition.« less
