Title: Petroleum production and petroleum geology of the Bakken formation, Williston Basin, North Dakota

Journal Article · · Compass Sigma Gamma Epsilon; (United States)
OSTI ID:5908241

Petroleum production can be documented from the Bakken Formation (Upper Devonian-Lower Mississippian) in the Williston Basin of North Dakota. Cumulative Bakken production from the state through April 1982, totaled 5,259,567 bbl from 38 wells located in 8 oil fields. Six of these fields represent relatively minor production; the remaining 2 fields (Antelope and Ekhorn Ranch) have accounted for more than 96% of the total Bakken production, the majority of this from the Antelope field. Production from the Bakken appears to be controlled by the presence of fractures and the thermal maturity of the organic-rich Bakken shales. 17 references.
