Title: Apparatus and process for catalytic reforming with continuous sulfur removal

This patent describes a method for continuously removing residual sulfur from a naphtha stream to be fed to a reformer. This method consists of passing the naphtha stream through entrance duct means through a primary absorber and thence through exit duct means leading to a reformer, the primary absorber having a charge of manganous oxide disposed therein, until the weight of sulfur passed through the primary absorber exceeds a predetermined amount of from about 5 to about 30 of the weight of the charge of manganous oxide; then simultaneously passing a portion of the naphtha stream through a by-pass absorber having a charge of manganous oxide disposed therein; the entrance duct means having a least one entrlocatable in the entrance duct means between the primary absorber and the entrance double seat double gate wedge valve means disposed therein for interrupting flow through the primary absorber and at least one entrance seal collar means mounted on the entrance duct means adapted to receive a blind seal plate means mountable thereon, locatable in the entrance duct means between the primary absorber and the entrance seal double seat double gate wedge valve means; removing naphtha from the primary absorber through the exit duct means for withdrawing desulfurized naphtha from the primary absorber, the exit duct means having at least one exit seal double seat double gate wedge valve means disposed therein for interrupting flow through the primary absorber and at least one exit seal collar means mounted on the exit duct means adapted to receive a blind seal plate means mountable thereon; and means for diverting flow of naphtha through the by-pass absorber while the entrance seal and exit seal double seat double gate wedge valve means are in their closed position, subsequently interrupting flow through the entrance and exit duct means by closing the entrance seal and exit seal double seat double gate wedge valves.
