In this work the grain boundary character distribution (GBCD) of FeAl is studied and a preliminary correlation between grain boundary character and intergranular fracture due to thermal stresses is established. The crystallographic orientation of individual grains was determined using the electron back-scatter diffraction (EBSD) method (6). Grain boundary character was classified by means of the Coincidence Site Lattice (CSL) model, up to {Sigma} = 35. To the authors` knowledge, such a study on this material has not previously been published. This work is intended to be an initial study for a sequence of works on grain boundary control and design in iron aluminides.
