Quantum creation of an inflationary Universe

It is shown that the process of quantum creation of the Universe must lead with high probability in a large class of elementary-particle theories to the creation of an exponentially expanding (inflationary) Universe whose radius after the end of the expansion exceeds lapprox.10/sup 28/ cm.
