Observations of the methylidyne (CH) molecule were made toward the envelope at G159.1 + 3.3 of the molecular cloud located behind the H II region Sharpless 217, at (1950) R.A. = 04h55m00s, Dec. = +47 deg 56 arcsec. Some of the envelope parameters derived from these CH line observations include a column density of CH of 2 x 10 to the 13th/sq cm, a line optical depth of -0.001, and a microturbulent velocity of 3.4 km/s. These observed data are also consistent with a blister-type model for the H II region, roughly facing the earth, coming off the envelope of the molecular cloud. 30 references.
